KHIDEKEL ArtDesign presents an exhibition of its pioneering art jewelry collection. We invite NYCJW attendees to learn about the cultural, social, and historical context of our jewelry art objects against the backdrop of the legacy of Lazar Khidekel and Modernism. The exhibition promotes our unique jewelry, which breaks the disciplinary divide by interpreting the art and philosophy of Suprematism, the avant-garde trend of geometrical abstraction, into sculptural shapes of jewelry art objects. Our event will feature other visual design elements from KHIDEKEL ArtDesign as well, such as porcelain, 3D animation, and a gallery of art works.

KHIDEKEL ArtDesign, established in 2012 by Mark Khidekel and Roman Khidekel, draws on the iconic avant-garde works of the artist and architect Lazar Khidekel (1904-1986) to produce one-of-a-kind fine jewelry and porcelain art objects. As a student of Kazimir Malevich and Marc Chagall, Lazar Khidekel translated Modernism – the foundation of visual culture in the 20th and 21st centuries – into the language of geometrical abstraction, creating art and floating cities that always refer to the future. Specifically, Lazar Khidekel took the artistic movement of Suprematism, which was the most radical trend of the avant-garde, as a tool for transforming every facet of the lived environment.

Today, KHIDEKEL ArtDesign employs these avant-garde principles, diversity of forms, and the harmonic principles between round and rectangular modules in pioneering jewelry and porcelain art objects. Taking this legacy of the Jewish and Eastern European avant-garde, Lazar Khidekel’s son Mark and grandson Roman continue to develop this artistic and philosophical movement into the 21st century. As artists, architects, and urbanists, Mark and Roman Khidekel are inspired to continue this legacy and to apply innovation, environmentalism, and new design visions to decorative art objects, including jewelry, porcelain, fashion, furniture, visual art, and 3D animation.

Our exhibition of KHIDEKEL ArtDesign jewelry, porcelain, drawings, and 3D images and animations will take place at Daylight Studio, a sleek and minimalist space ideally suited for showcasing our art objects. The event will feature a gallery talk telling the story behind KHIDEKEL ArtDesign, discussing the historical legacy of Lazar Khidekel and Modernism, and exploring the contemporary and future application of this legacy. A reception with the Khidekel family, including Mark and Roman, and art historian Regina Khidekel and historian Yelizaveta Raykhlina will follow the gallery talk.
